Working with Masks

A mask is a special image used to selectively apply a process to a target image. When processing an image through a mask, each pixel in the mask says the fraction of the processed pixel value that will replace the original pixel value. By using masks, we can modulate certain processing techniques according to particular characteristics of the target images.

With the obvious exceptions of global and geometric processes, the entire set of processes implemented in PixInsight can be applied through a mask.
